The Tamil Nadu couple will host a Hogwarts theme-based virtual wedding reception which will be attended by friends and family online. An avatar of the bride's late father will attend the function in the metaverse.
India is all set to witness its first-ever wedding reception in the metaverse. A couple from Tamil Nadu will host their Hogwarts theme based wedding reception in February.
Dinesh S P and Janaganandhini Ramaswamy will get married on the first Sunday of February in their Village but will host a reception digitally on a virtual venue attended by their friends and family from across the world. They will enter the virtual setup by logging in through the website link, which will take them to the dining room of Hogwarts castle.
Dinesh, the groom, also shared a small video giving a sneak peek into what the reception could potentially look like through his Twitter account.

Hogwarts Themed Virtual Reception
The idea was first floated by the groom Dinesh, a project associate with IIT Madras. He told Times of India, "I have been into crypto and blockchain technology and have been mining ethereum, a form of cryptocurrency, for the last one year. Since blockchain was the basic technology of metaverse when my wedding was fixed, I thought of having a reception in Metaverse".
What is Metaverse?
A metaverse is a network of 3D virtual worlds focused on social connection. In futurism and science fiction, the term is often described as a hypothetical iteration of the Internet as a single, universal virtual world facilitated by virtual and augmented reality headsets.
Avatar Of Bride's Later Father To Attend Function
The bride lost her father last April, but Dinesh plans to have his digital avatar at the virtual reception. "My girlfriend's father passed away last April. I want to surprise her, and I plan to bring him in virtually and participate in the event. He will be there as a 3D avatar, bless us in the metaverse. That's the gift I can give her," Dinesh added.
Janaganandhini, a potter head, is excited for her Hogwarts themed virtual reception. In conversation with The Indian Express, she said, "I was doubtful if it will be possible. I asked him why can't we conduct it here in the village. I questioned him if it would be conducted traditionally, how people would join, their clothing etc. So far, I have not understood the concept in its entirety. I hope it will be successful,"
The wedding will be spearheaded by Chennai based start-up Tardi Verse, headed by Vignesh Selvaraj using polygon blockchain technology.
