Delhi Records First Case Of COVID-19 Sub-Variant JN.1; Hospitals In Gurugram On High Alert

In a concerning development, Delhi has reported its first case of the COVID-19 sub-variant JN.1, raising alarms among health authorities. Simultaneously, hospitals in Gurugram are on high alert, closely monitoring the situation and preparing for potential surges in cases.

The Health Ministry's latest update on Wednesday revealed that an additional 412 fresh COVID-19 cases have contributed to India's active cases, bringing the total to 4,093. The death toll has risen to 5,33,340, with three new fatalities reported from Karnataka and Gujarat as reported by Livemint.

As of now, India's overall COVID-19 case tally stands at 4,50,10,189, with a national recovery rate of 98.81 percent, as per the ministry's official website. The fatality rate remains at 1.19 percent.

The emerging concern revolves around the COVID-19 sub-variant JN.1, with a total of 109 cases detected in India as of Wednesday. Goa leads the tally with a sudden surge of 34 cases reported in a single day on Monday.

Cases Reported Across Various States

In the last 24 hours, Gujarat reported the highest number of new variant cases at 36, followed by Karnataka with 34 cases, Goa with 14 cases, Maharashtra with 9 cases, Kerala with 6 cases, and Rajasthan with 4 cases. Additionally, Tamil Nadu reported four new variant cases, and Telangana reported two, according to sources cited by ANI.

Providing a ray of relief, the reported cases so far do not indicate any significant clustering in specific areas. Furthermore, it has been noted that most individuals affected by the JN.1 subvariant exhibit mild symptoms.

The nationwide count of active COVID-19 cases currently stands at 4,054, with Kerala contributing the highest number. "Thirty-seven COVID-19 cases are from Goa, 344 from Karnataka, 3,128 from Kerala, and 50 from Maharashtra," stated the Health Ministry data.
