When asked about India’s oil purchase from Russia by a reporter, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar said “India probably buys less oil from Russia in a month than what Europe does in one afternoon." Following the completion of the 2+2 ministerial, Jaishankar addressed a joint news conference with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and his American counterparts, Secretary of State Tony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin. According to Jaishankar, India has made a series of declarations (on the Russia-Ukraine conflict) outlining its views in the United Nations, the Indian Parliament, and other places. The White House also rushed to India's defence on the matter of oil purchases, saying that its total buy is less than 1%, compared to 10% from the US.
