Group Captain Abhinandan Varthaman, who shot down a Pakistani F-16 jet during a dogfight over the Line of Control (LoC) on February 27, 2019, was awarded the Vir Chakra on November 22 by President Ram Nath Kovind. Abhinandan’s is the IAF’s first Vir Chakra after the 1999 Kargil war.
